The Man Who Knew Infinity: Movie Review

Hello everyone!

This post is about a movie called "The Man Who Knew Infinity" that I recently watched and wanted to share my review. The movie is about the great Indian mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan.

                                                 !!!!ATTENTION SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

Ramanujan was born on December 22, 1887 in Madras (now known as Chennai). From a very young age, he loved math and was obsessed with numbers. Because of his focus on math, he did not do very well in other subjects. He even got a job in accounting to work with numbers. In his spare time away from work, he would develop formulae and easier ways to do math. He worked on it so much that he wrote two text books. Seeing this, Ramanujan's boss decided to send some of his notes to a very smart math professor named G.H. Hardy who worked at the prestigious Trinity College in Cambridge, England. Hardy was amazed at Ramanujan's work and collaborated with his friend John Littlewood to figure out his notes and theorems. Hardy eventually invited Ramanujan to join him in Cambridge. Ramanujan accepted his invitation and boarded a ship to travel to England on March 17th, 1914.

Ramanujan started working with Hardy on his discoveries in math as soon as he arrived in England. The first few months at Cambridge were hard but eventually Ramanujan made friends. During the same time, World War I broke out making things difficult for students like Ramanujan. Food was always a problem as he was a vegetarian and the food served in the college was either meat or cooked in animal fat. This made Ramanujan to cook his own food.  Eventually, he got his bachelors degree in March 1916, which was a proud moment.

Ramanujan faced lots of discrimination in Cambridge because of his origins. This did not stop him and he kept working with focus and determination. Because of all the hardships with food, the World War, and lack of many friends, Ramanujan fell sick and was diagnosed with Tuberculosis. His condition became worse, but thanks to Hardy and the doctors, he recovered and decided to go back to India. Ramanujan bid farewell to Hardy with a heavy heart and arrived in Madras on March 27, 1919. After arrival, his health deteriorated and he died on April 26, 1919 at a very young age of 32 years.

Ramanujan was recognized by Trinity College after his passing away with a Fellowship. Even today, people are still deciphering his work and discovering new formulae in math. Did you know that Ramanujan's birthday, December 22nd, is National Maths Day? In honor of his 125th birthday, 2012 was declared National Mathematics Year. A really cool thing is that you can actually refer to Ramanujan's notebooks digitally, making his work memorable and immortal.

I not only watched the movie but I also read the Amar Chitra Katha (Indian informational comic) about Srinivasa Ramanujan. The comic is available at https://digital.amarchitrakatha.com/id005835497/Srinivasa-Ramanujan

I loved the movie but the only part that was difficult to understand was the advanced math that was referred by the actors. I would rate "The Man Who Knew Infinity" 4 1/2 stars and recommend you to watch it.

Hi everyone!

Thumbs up to Appa because we are going to talk about the Greek Gods from Greek Mythology! This is a beginner's guide to them. Also, Sammy's imagination is wild as per his guess! Thumbs up to you too!

Make sure to check the teaser emojis!

I chose Greek mythology for this week's topic because I wanted to include some stories into my blog. I also wanted to include creativity and imagination because that is just what Greek mythology is. In Greek mythology, there are many myths and gods. There are 12 major gods called the Olympians. In Ancient Greece, the Greeks usually and typically worshiped these 12 gods. I will be talking about each of them. Some background knowledge to know before you read this is that the Olympians lived on Mount. Olympus in Greece.

Zeus (Pronounced: Zoos): Zeus is the king of the gods and the eldest of them. He is the god of thunder, justice, and ruler of the sky. His main weapon is the Master Bolt! Dun-dun-dun! The Master Bolt is an amazing bolt of lightning that could create unbelievable explosions. Zeus has two brothers, Hades and Poseidon, who are also major gods. Zeus can get angry pretty quickly. That big thunder storm you see coming? That's probably Zeus anger turning into a great storm. Zeus' symbols are the lightning bolt and the eagle.

                                        Ways of Worship: Zeus

Hera (Pronounced: Hair'-ah): Hera is the goddess of  families. She is also the queen of the gods and Zeus' wife. She is known to help families and mortal heroes on quests. Her symbols are the pomegranate, lotus, cow, and peacock.

Hera - Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Poseidon (Pronounced: Po-sigh'-dun): Poseidon is the god of horses and water-related natural disasters. He is also the ruler of the sea. Poseidon is the brother of Zeus. Both of them usually have quarrels and fight sometimes. That other big storm you hear? Yup, that's probably Poseidon and Zeus fighting. An amazing thing Poseidon made is the horse. In a Greek myth, Poseidon made horses out of sea foam for a contest. Poseidon's symbols are the three-pointed trident and horses.

🔱 Poseidon :: Greek God of the Sea

Demeter (Pronounced: Duh-mee'-ter): Demeter is the goddess of agriculture. She is the sister of Zeus. She looks over the growing season. In ancient Greek times, she was known to help farmers and gardeners. When her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped by the god Hades, she did not let any crops grow in anger. This season became to be known as winter. Demeter's symbols are a torch and usually the corn plant.

Ares (Pronounced: Air'-eez): Ares is the god of war. He is also the son of Zeus and Hera. In Ancient Greek times, he usually fought in most wars and battles. In the Trojan War, Ares was on the Trojan's side. Ares' symbols are a bloody spear and a wild boar.

Athena (Pronounced: Ah-thee'-nah): Athena is the goddess of wisdom, battle, and useful arts and crafts. Athena is the daughter of Zeus. Apollo (Pronounced: Ah-paul-oh'): Apollo is the god of medicine, music, poetry, prophecy, archery and the god of the sun. Apollo is the son of Zeus and is also the twin of the goddess Artemis. Apollo the god of the sun when the old sun god, Helios retired. Apollo's symbols are the lyre (a musical instrument that is kind of like a mini harp), the laurel wreath, and the sun.

                                    Ways of Worship: Apollo

Artemis (Pronounced: Ar'-tem-iss): Artemis is the goddess of the moon, the hunt, and young maidens. Artemis is the daughter of Zeus and the twin sister of Apollo. Artemis usually appears as a young girl. Artemis is known to be excellent with the bow. Artemis travels with her group, The Hunters of Artemis, which is a hunting group full of immortal girls. Artemis and the hunters usually go out hunting for fun. Artemis took over the mantle of the goddess of the moon when the old goddess, Selene, retired. Artemis' symbols are the deer and the moon.

Hephaestus (Pronounced: Huh-fess-tus): Hephaestus is the god of blacksmiths, craftsmanship, and fire. He is the son of Zeus and Hera and husband of Aphrodite. Hephaestus is known to make wonderful creations with his large hands. In Greek myths, Hephaestus was known to be very ugly. So ugly that his own mother, Hera, threw him off Mount. Olympus. This made it hard to walk for him as his legs were bent in odd shapes. He is very smart though and has lots of forges all over the world. Hephaestus' symbols are the anvil and hammer.

Aphrodite (Pronounced: A-fro-di'-tee): Aphrodite is the goddess of  beauty. She is the wife of Hephaestus. She is known to be very pretty. It's hard to describe her because she can change her appearance to whatever you find pretty. Aphrodite actually started the Trojan War. This happened when she made Prince Paris judge her the most fairest goddess of all.  When Prince Paris kidnapped a princess, the Trojans were mad and started a war with the Greeks. Aphrodite's symbols are the dove and rose.

Hermes (Pronounced: Her'-meez): Hermes is the god of roadways, travelers, merchants, and thieves. He is the son of Zeus. Hermes is the messenger of the gods. He also leads spirits to the Underworld (where you go when you pass away). Hermes is known to wear a winged helmet and winged shoes. He is also known to be extremely fast. Hermes was a big troublemaker when he was a child. He once stole the sacred cattle of his brother Apollo! Apollo was very angry but to make it up, Hermes invented the lyre! Hermes' symbols are the caduceus (the item Hermes is holding below is the caduceus).

Dionysus (Pronounced: Di-oh-ni'-sus): Dionysus is the god of wine. He is the son of Zeus and is the most recently appointed Olympian (recent being billions and billions and billions of years back). Dionysus is known for wearing a leopard skin cape as his sacred animal is the leopard. Zeus was so impressed with Dionysus for inventing wine, that he made him a god. In Ancient Greece, Dionysus mostly spent his time partying. Just because Dionysus is only the god of wine, don't think that he is not powerful. One time, when pirates attacked the ship he was traveling on, Dionysus made them turn insane and then into dolphins. Dionysus' symbols are the leopard and the grape vine.

Birth of Dionysus - Greek Mythological God of Wine

Hades (Pronounced: Hay'-deez): Hades is not an Olympian, however, he is a major god worth mentioning. Hades is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon. He is the god and ruler of the Underworld. He makes sure the spirits of the dead are going to the right places. He is known for kidnapping the daughter of Demeter, Persephone who later became his wife. Demeter eventually forgave him for that incident. Hades sits on a throne of bones and has a special helmet called the helm of darkness that makes him invisible. Hades' symbol is the helm of darkness.

A fun reading: Hybrid fruits and veggies

Hello everyone!

Adi here with a fun post today! I will be talking about hybrid veggies and fruits. Now what is a hybrid? Well a hybrid is when two different species of animals or plants cross-breed. It sounds kind of weird but the results can be cool. If any of you have watched Jurassic World, then you have seen a hybrid because the famous "Indominus Rex" is a hybrid from a chameleon, cuttlefish, Tyrannosaurus Rex, and a Velociraptor. Of course the dinosaur was not real but it certainly looked cool!

So, I wanted to share with you some wacky but tasty hybrid fruits and vegetables. Lets get started!

Pluots: Pluots are a combination of plums and apricots. They look very spherical and in colors can very from a light pinkish-orange to a deep, deep purple. They are very young, invented 25 years ago, but can be found easily and are extremely sweet! *chomp*

Blood Orange: This fruit is like a ninja or a secret spy. It looks like a normal orange but WHAM, when you cut it open, you get a bright red color in the inside. It looks like blood but don't worry, because it isn't. This fruit is also very dramatic! Fun Fact: To get the inside of the orange to turn red, the special fruits are exposed to the cold during their growing stage.

                                          o-16481

Brussel Kale/Kalettes: Here is our first hybrid vegetable! As you probably guessed, the Brussel Kale or Kalettes are a combination of Brussel Sprouts and Kale. I know they are two of the weirdest tasting vegetables but some people actually says it is good! Maybe see if you can try it for yourself... if you can actually find it.This hybrid is pretty rare to find in supermarkets.

                                    kalettes

Tangelo: One of the most sweetest fruits you are going to find here. Tangerine + Grapefruit = big size and tasty concoction. They are also very easy to peel. Also very easy to notice because of its big size.

                    2725

Broccoflower: This is a really nice hybrid. Mix broccoli and cauliflower and you get a cool looking green, tasty vegetable.

                                 broccoflower

Pineberry: One of my absolute favorite looking fruits. This albino strawberry is awesome based on the fact that it smells like a pineapple and has red seeds and is white. Everyone loves this. Oh, and did I mention that it is a mix of pineapple and strawberry?

Wow! That was amazing and I hope you all liked it too. Please leave in the comments if you have any other hybrids or if you have eaten one of these. I have only eaten the blood orange but I would like to eat all the others. Also, please check every week before Friday at 5 pm for a new post. I hope you will continue to read! Last but not least, I am going to put 4 or 5 emojis at the end of my post to tease the topic of the next one. See if you can figure it out and if you know, write in the comments below.
